Is it normal for hermit to stay in one place for a long time?
i would say if you just bought one and just moved the other, they are merely destressing ... it is actually good because they are healthy enough to destress ... i would make sure the tank has everything they need and not handle them too much until they get more settled ... you have no idea if they have eaten anything unless you have been watching the tank 24 hours a day ... last night i got up at 4 am and walked by the tank and it was a hermit crab party going on in there ... all were moving about but right now i look at the tank and i can not see one hermit crab (i have six) ... you might consider putting out a really great buffet for them ... (and check to see the commercial hermit crab food you are using does not contain copper sulfate or ethoxyquin in the ingredients, toxic to , and if the food does contain that, throw it in the garbage) ... use fresh food, fresh meat (cooked with no spices or oils), fresh veggies and fresh fruit ... mine also love smushed up almonds, popcorn, coconut ... and be sure the have both fresh and salt water pools made with fish products and no hermit crab water conditioners or salt soaks which are useless ... and make sure the sand is not hermit crab coloured sand but play sand or aquarium sand (no calci-sand or reptile sand) and it should be deep enough and damp so the largest crab can bury completely ...
